Garrard Chapel Church Food Pantry

"So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand." -Isaiah 41:10

Faith and belief comprise a very important part of our lives. A person's beliefs in many ways define who they are, How they see themselves, what they want out of life and more.

The food pantry was started in 2004. Some members of the church and others were calling the church asking for help. Marilyn Hill felt the need to help these people and others in Patricksburg,Poland,Spencer,Bowling Green, etc. In other words "Owen County." She asked the church if she and her husband,Paul could start a food pantry. In the beginning it started with the Church members donating food and money.

At first they would deliver the food to the needy, but as the word spread,a pantry was set up in the Church. It started by opening twice a week until another food pantry opened up the road from Garrard Chapel. This prompted them to open on Wednesday's only. In the following weeks more and more people began coming. Marilyn asked for volunteers to help with the pantry.

With more needy people asking for help with food,it became almost impossible to keep up with the demand. The Church decided to get a 501-C3 tax exemption which made it easier to recieve donations and grants. But we are always in need of food. We accept money donations and non-perishable food items.

My friend and I met Marilyn in early 2008, We were in need of help. Marilyn welcomed us with open arms. She prayed with us and for us. You could feel the love she has for the lord. She changed our lives that day.
As we began to know Marilyn better and see the love and joy she had was doing,it began to touch our hearts. We began to feel the same way. We joined the church. The Pastor and his wife, all the congretation, opened their hearts to us. It was like this was were God wanted us to be. We became members and were baptised.

" Trust in the Lord with all your heart, Lean not unto your own understanding...but in all the ways acknowledge him,and he will direct your paths." Proverbs 3:56
